Is this the best gay club in the country?
Difficult to imagine this as a tatty little afterhours club for people who had neither jobs nor an inclination to stop on a Monday morning, especially as it has now successfully crossed over from being just a gay club.
Born at the Prince of Orange pub in Rotherhithe - yes, that is where the name came from, and isn't it fortunate that it wasn't the Prince of Wales - and owing its success in part to the success of DTPM,
by Easter 2004, the Orange was filling the Fridge (yes, I have just realised how absurd that sentance looks, and no I'm not sure how to spell sentence).
When Orange first outgrew it's original home, it moved to Vauxhall's Viaduct, then across the road to Club Colosseum, before settling back into Fire, the revamped Viaduct. Returning to Colosseum for Bank Holiday parties,
and gaining a listing in Mixmag's top clubs of 2002, Orange seemed to have reached the limit of it's success, held back only by the size of Fire.
As it turned out, the success of Orange, and it's Saturday morning twin, A:M, led to the two clubs combining forces for Fusion at the SE1 Club, and then for NYE 2003, at the Fridge. The success of this last party led to an Orange 'takeover' of the Fridge, further joint A:M & Orange Fusion parties, and most recently for Easter 2004, the biggest Orange ever seen! This is where the pictures were taken, so don't troll down to Fire next Monday and expect flame-throwers, bubbles, or fireworks!
What you can expect every Monday at Fire, is the original Orange experience, overcrowded toilets, and fantastic music.
