SALVATION

Monthly, 1st Sunday (more or less)

Cafe de Paris, Leicester Square
Web: salvation-london.com

I've had a bit of stick about this, but Sunday 13th February 2005 marked my first (and long-overdue) visit to the rather fantastic Salvation! Not through lack of trying, mind, it's just that Sunday's have never been a good day for me...

Technically, I first went to Salvation in 2002, when it was part of the hugely successful Kinky Trade Sunday-nighter at Amnesia in Ibiza. I went to that almost every Sunday, before the plug was unceremoniously pulled at the height of its success. Still, I got to hear some fantastic DJs for the first time, not least Gonzalo, David Jimenez and Luke Hope, and also met Salvation's lovely promoter Steve who generously invited me to Salvation when I returned to London... and I did try! The first time I tried, I ended up at DTPM, and learnt that if you want to get into Salvation, go early, as the queues can be horrendous. After that, Beyond and Trade took their toll during the winter, and Ibiza during the summer, and Salvation seemed increasingly like an impossible dream. Fortunately this year, Trade didn't have a party on Valentine's weekend, and after Menthol's launch party, I was able to go home and put my feet up for a few hours before going on to my very first Salvation!

And unlike that intro, Salvation was very much worth the wait! What a fantastic venue, and the music, though not as challenging as some, was faultlessly rendered. I'll be going back regularly, I hope, especially if Trade and Salvation can coordinate their dates so as not to coordinate!
