ARIEL

Web: djariel.co.uk

Possibly the easiest DJ to work with in London, and the star of the Space Ibiza in London event in May 2005.

The plan, and there's always a plan, was to approach Ariel's current employers Blue Cube, and ask if they'd mind if Ariel was asked to DJ for Ibiza's La Troya Asesina on their second visit to London in June 2005... It had always been a dream of mine for Ariel to play alongside La Troya's DJ Oliver, but as he wasn't part of the line-up of Heaven DJs it wasn't possible when La Troya made their London debut a few months earlier in March... Anyway, I was mentioning this to my flat-mate (don't worry, he was starting to glaze over by this point as well), at which point he stopped me going any further by dropping into the conversation that he knew Ariel, and did I want his number... And also suggested that I ask him to play at the Space event as well!

Just a few weeks later it was May 28th 2005, and Ariel's star turn, along with percussionist Angela, filled an empty room, and added a further layer to the Ariel mythos!

After the Space Ibiza event, everyone wanted Ariel and Angela back for the La Troya Asesina event, and Ariel himself suggested the return for the night of his former Turnmills baby, Latinaires, as the second headlining attraction. Alongside Ariel and Angela, hotly-tipped young talent Alex Celler (not 'cellar' - magazine editors take note) agreed to play the opening slot.

Ariel's got a superstar reputation, but not an ego to go with it, and was the easiest and most agreeable DJ to work with.

Since the La Troya event, Ariel has continued to pack the dancefloor in DTPM's Room Two every Sunday night, and has also brought back another of his Latin-American parties, this time Manteca at Ruby 2005.
