DAVE CROSS

Dave, we've got to stop meeting like this!

By rights, Dave should be first in the DJ listings, since he's had the misfortune to know me a lot longer than anyone else on this website... An old drinking buddy from the days of Jim's Phone Bar - if you have heard of it, naturally we were underage by at least 7 or 8 years - when CJ was more C than you could possibly believe, Pebbles was a mere slip of a lad and nobody had heard of D-Bop!

Over the years I'd run into his friends who'd keep me abreast of what he was up to, "making records", "DJing", "club promotion", none of which really registerered until I saw his picture in QX along with a three-page interview! Making it my mission to catch him DJing live proved harder than I thought (it was a Sound On Sunday thing, so I've only got myself to blame), it wasn't until he took Habit along to Beyond that I was able to hear him play. I've heard him plenty of times since, mainly at Crash, and he's consistently at the head of his game.

Aside from still being a lot younger than me (I presume, I actually have no idea how old he is), Dave is one of the London scene's most popular DJs (seriously, he's probably the only DJ in London that none of the others have a bitchy word to say about), and when he's not promoting and DJing, Dave goes out... a lot! I know this because I thought I went out a lot, and everywhere I go he's there already! Just don't expect him to be holding a Phone Bar reunion party anytime in the near future.
