STEVE PITRON

A DJ who's been knocking around for a lot longer than I've been writing about him in the DiscoDamaged.com newsletter, I didn't actually 'notice' Steve until one night he was playing at Crash in February 2003. And up until that night, I wasn't sure that him and DJ Stevie P weren't one and the same person!

Despite it being an Action night, the promise of a PA from The Ones, the group behind my all-time favourite Ibiza anthem, "Flawless", instead guaranteed that I was down at Crash that night. After being told that The Ones had cancelled at the last minute, I'd been tempted to sneak out and down the road to Action, but Crash doorman Steve Simmonds Steve Pitron, Fusion (pic by Martin, 03/2004)persuaded me to stop and listen to his favourite DJ, Steve Pitron. Enjoying the music, and having a rare opportunity to dance without being crushed on the usually crowded dancefloor, I did just that.

By the time I left Crash that night I was sold on Steve Pitron's mastery of the Crash dancefloor, and though I had been planning to head back home for an early one, called in instead at Beyond to hear him play there... That marked the start of a Beyond fixation which saw me return to Beyond every week, mainly to hear my main floor dream team of Steve Pitron, David Jimenez and Alan X, for the following 15 weeks, until I left for Ibiza that summer.

Outside Beyond and Crash, the only other time I heard Steve play was at the Orange/A:M Easter bash, where he could pretty much take the credit for filling the usually quieter 2nd room at Club Colosseum.

Steve Pitron, Fusion (pic by Martin, 03/2004)That Steve's drop-dead gorgeous doesn't hurt any, but it's his mixing skills that set him apart from so many other DJs.

Over the winter of 2003/2004 I've discovered that he's not just one of the best scene DJs in London, who's been hit with more than his fair share of the pretty stick... He's also one of the most easy-natured men on the scene. And even his uncle reads my website! The whole family's obviously top-heavy with taste and judgement!
