BORA BORA MUSIC

Anyone who's been partying hard in Ibiza will at some point have found themselves stumbling into the Bora-Bora beach bar. In September 2004, after 5 years of free seaside frolics, the authorities pulled the plug on Bora-Bora, one of the biggest draws to the clubbing tourist, for its mixture of sublime music and discounted partying. Not one to take such a blow lying down, Bora-Bora founder DJ Gee immediately announced that if the world could no longer come to Bora-Bora Ibiza, Bora would go to the world, kicking off in London!

And as soon as I heard about it, I was first in the queue!

Often Ibiza parties come to town in name only, with few if any of the DJs who might be associated with the club. Not so Bora-Bora Music which, aside from guest DJ Danny Tenaglia, featured the cream of Bora-Bora Ibiza's resident DJs, principally Gee Moore (a.k.a. DJ Gee), Gordon "Trumpet Man" Edge, Oliver Lang, Will Johnston and Andy G, plus Gary Ramsden playing in the Cheeky People room. Actually a D-Pressure Events' Cheeky People party hosting Bora-Bora's UK debut, the Bora-Bora element took over from the moment it was announced.

Anticipating a hugely popular event, I stocked up on tickets in advance, and I was very pleased that I had, as the party was completely sold out, with queues stretching around the block!

Upstairs in the Star Bar, I soon found out that I wasn't the only refugee from Ibiza in attendance, with more familiar faces and DJs than at the previous night's Ibiza United party at Pacha London. Projected onto big screens was a film of the Bora-Bora 2003 closing party (they didn't get to hold their 2004 closing party), and dotted around the room were potted palms for that extra touch of Ibiza kitsch. The star of the night, however, was the music. Pure Bora-Bora at its finest, the atmosphere didn't let up for a second, and the Star Bar remained packed with enthusiastic clubbers long past the scheduled 7am close.

Downstairs, in the main room, it was equally relentless, with guest DJ Danny Tenaglia showing his support for Bora-Bora by playing a 7-hour set to an even-more packed room, this one carrying on past 7.30!

Not only was it the best party I'd been to in London all year, it was also the best party of the 21 years I'd been going to Heaven, and one the club should deservedly be proud of hosting.

Bora-Bora are due to return to London in 2005, and Heaven are also lining up some stellar Ibiza talent to pre-empt the start of the 2005 summer season on the white island... Keep your eyes peeled for what are sure to be the most talked about parties of 2005!
