IBIZA UNITED

Thursday 11th November 2004

Pacha, Terminus Place, London SW1
Web: graphitemedia.net

Okay, Ibiza's seven largest superclubs join forces after a summer of cut-throat competition, to bring their parties to London...

Strangely enough, there was no blood spilt, but plenty of good music!

What persuaded me down, was the London debut of my favourite Ibiza DJ, La Troya Asesina and Amnesia resident Oliver Azor, a.k.a. DJ Oliver. With the equally fantastic Carl Cox on the bill, plus heavyweights such as Pete Tong and Judge Jules, I would have been mad not to go to the party. Also, as I'd never been to London's Pacha, this was a perfect opportunity for a club whore such as myself.

Getting tickets looked problematic, as at only a tenner a head, they'd sold out before I'd even found out about the event, but mentioning this to DJ Oliver led to an unlimited guest list for me and the rest of the Scooby Gang.

I managed to completely miss Pete Tong's set, as the hours I'd been given by the Pacha press office bore no resemblance to the final running order for the night, but I was able to enjoy every minute of Space resident Carl Cox's set. Supreme. Playing house, not his usual techno stylings, in the spirit of unity the party was meant to represent, kept the dancefloor packed and the crowd happy until he passed the decks to Judge Jules. Jules in turn demonstrated what a fantastic DJ he can be, though playing hard house and deep dark trance left little scope for the main room's final DJ, Oliver Azor.

Anyway, the Judge had cleared most of the crowd and the party atmosphere, so Oliver had to find a way to keep the clubbers still there happy for another couple of hours. And he did, opting for a underground techno house set of his Amnesia stablemates Mar T and Paco Osuna, rather than the uplifting balearic house of La Troya. I had to crash early, and left about 5.30am, but Oliver told me the next day that he kept playing until 7am, and has been invited back to play at Pacha again.

Expect the clubs in Ibiza to be disunited again by next summer...

Actually, I've got a lot more to write about this night, but I've also got 400+ photos to sift through as well, so it's going to have to be a work in progress...
